Signposts for Australian Agriculture
The Signposts for Australian Agriculture project looks at the role of agriculture in natural resource management, economic growth and community life. Signposts aims to develop a framework for consistent reporting on the contributions of Australia’s agricultural industries to environmentally sustainable development.
The first major demonstration product of Signposts for Australian Agriculture, is the Grains Industry Profile website. The website is a partnership between the rural research and development corporations, governments and NLWRA. Grains Industry Profile is an evolving, interactive website that gauges how the grains industry is performing against a range of environmental, economic and social indicators, such as water quality, exports and employment.
The website also aims to stimulate discussion about the grains industry, and will evolve through user feedback. The grains industry is going through a period of rapid change. Understanding its full range of contributions is vital for government and industry policy makers to identify challenges and opportunities. The Bureau of Rural Sciences developed the Grains Industry Profile with the Grains Research and Development Corporation, the Grains Council of Australia and the NLWRA.
