Nominations for the 19th McKell Medal close 5.00pm EDST 14 November 2008

The McKell Medal is the most prestigious Australian award for excellence and achievement in natural resource management.

Nominations for the 19th McKell Medal are now open. Application forms and supporting information are available below.

The award commemorates the outstanding contribution Sir William McKell, Premier of NSW (1941-47) and Governor-General of Australia (1947–53), made to the fields of soil and land conservation.

The McKell Medal is an annual award recognising outstanding achievements in shaping community attitudes and practices in natural resource management through promotion, education, research or other development activities.

The medal is sponsored by Australian, state and territory government agencies through the Natural Resource Management Ministerial Council. Award nominations are assessed by an independent McKell Medal Advisory Panel PDF Icon PDF [27kb].

The panel includes representatives of Australian, state and territory governments, rural industries, the landcare community, rural communications and the natural resource management community. Current panel members.

McKell medallists

  • Wolford and Marie Parsons were presented with the 18th McKell Medal at the Natural Resource Management Ministerial Council meeting in Melbourne on  18 April 2008. Congratulations are extended to all nominees for the 18th McKell Medal PDF Icon PDF [32kb].
  • Previous winners of the McKell Medal are pre-eminent practitioners of natural resource management in Australia.
