Environmental Management Systems

The Australian Government undertook a number of initiatives to encourage the adoption of Environmental Management System (EMS) approaches to improve the productivity, competitiveness and sustainability of Australian agriculture and rural and regional communities.

This included funding for four major programs:

  • EMS – Pathways to Sustainable Agriculture Program
  • Pathways to Industry EMS Program
  • EMS – National Pilot Program
  • EMIS Incentives Program (EMSIP) (2002-07).

National Guide to Environmental Management Systems in Agriculture - CD ROM

An easy to use, multi-media CD-ROM is available from NSW Agriculture, Tocal. Developed by NSW Agriculture, Tocal, with support from the Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation, this practical resource provides a step-by-step guide for primary producers wishing to develop an EMS for their farm.

The CD contains text, video, illustrations, examples, an interactive glossary and practical exercises covering four national competency standards that can lead to qualifications in agriculture, and conservation and land management.
A sample demonstration of the CD can be viewed on the EMS website. Some people may have difficulty viewing the video due to their connection and media player, but this will not be the case using the CD.

The CD is available from CB Alexander Agricultural College: phone 1800 025 250.
