DAFF's Counsellor (Agriculture) in Rome
Ms Fiona Bartlett has taken up the role of Counsellor (Agriculture), replacing Judy Barfield in Rome in January 2008.
Her role is to represent Australia’s interests at the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO). As Australia’s Permanent Representative to the FAO Ms Bartlett informs the organisation of Australia’s priorities on agriculture and food issues, such as standard-setting and regulatory work including the Codex Alimentarius Commission, the International Plant Protection Commission, the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture, as well as on fisheries and forestry issues. She represents Australia’s interests in the major FAO governance and policy committee negotiations.
Ms Bartlett also represents Australia’s interest in bilateral engagements with Italy.
