The Forest and Wood Products Council is a forest industry body, advising the Minister on the Forest and Wood Products Action Agenda PDF Icon PDF [573kb] and was formalised by the Australian Government under the Regional Forest Agreements Act 2002 s11.

Established in November 2000 this council provides a high level forum for:

  • exchanging advice and information between the Australian Government, the forest industry and other national level stakeholders
  • promoting co-operation and establishing corporate linkages along the forest and wood products production chain, and
  • advising the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry on the implementation of the industry Action Agenda and other industry government initiatives.

The Australian Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry chairs the council, whose members include high-level forest industry representatives, peak industry lobby groups, and the unions.

Industry representative groups have established the industry company, Forest and Wood Products Australia to undertake marketing and promotion and take over the research and development role of the former Forest and Wood Products Research and Development Corporation.
