Water Sciences

The Water Sciences Program is at the forefront of research into water and salinity issues in Australia. This information is used in catchment planning and for national policy development and program implementation.

Water

Australia’s surface and groundwater resources are vital to the prosperity and sustainability of rural industries and communities. BRS is working at a national, state and community level to improve understanding of the connection between surface and groundwater, and how that connection impacts on water quality and availability.

Salinity

Managing salinity, both on land and in waterways, is one of Australia’s major natural resource management challenges. BRS is developing salinity mapping strategies and tools to locate where salt is stored and how it moves through landscapes. These tools will allow salinity to be managed, while minimising disruption to rural communities and industries.
