Knowledge of current land use is essential to support improved management of land, vegetation and water resources and to develop responses to catchment management issues such as salinity, water quality and the maintenance of biodiversity. Feral animals and weeds impact significantly on economic, environmental and social aspects of Australian agriculture and natural resources and BRS is working to reduce these impacts. BRS also provides scientific advice on a range of biotechnology issues, including genetically modified organisms, genetic resource management, animal cloning and nanotechnology to assist government to develop strategies for these innovative technologies.
