IRA's for Bananas from the Philippines, Chicken Meat and Prawns
Australia’s import risk analysis (IRA) processes were reformed in September 2007 to increase transparency, timeliness and stakeholder confidence in the system. Australia’s science-based approach to quarantine and very low risk biosecurity policy setting remain unchanged.
IRAs which were well advanced when the reforms were announced in October 2006 (bananas from the Philippines, chicken meat and prawns), will be finalised under the previous process. All other existing IRAs will be transitioned to the new process.
Further information on the previous IRA process can be found in the Import Risk Analysis Handbook (2003), including stakeholders’ rights of appeal to the IRA Appeal Panel on IRA's for bananas from the Philippines, chicken meat and prawns. The Eminent Scientists Group’s terms of reference under the previous IRA process will apply to these IRA's.
