Prawn IRA team meeting, 9 September 2008

The prawn and products import risk analysis (IRA) team met via teleconference at 2pm on 9 September 2008.

The meeting focused on

  • review of the current interim risk management measures for prawns in light of the detection of the newly identified strain of IHHNV;
  • the decision of the Aquatic Consultative Committee on Emergency Animal Disease (AqCCEAD) regarding the new information on IHHNV; and
  • implications for the current interim measures.

The IRA team decided that, following the information provided by AqCCEAD, there is no justification to retain the current interim quarantine measures related to IHHNV.  Testing for WSSV and YHV should remain in place.

Prawn IRA team meeting, 25 February 2008

The prawn and prawn products import risk analysis (IRA) team met in Canberra on 25 February 2008.

The meeting focused on

  • review of responses to stakeholder comments not previously considered;
  • review of changes to the 2006 Revised Draft IRA report to be included in the draft final IRA report; and
  • update on issues that have arisen since the implementation of the interim quarantine measures.

Prawn IRA team meeting, 18 July 2007

The prawn and prawn products import risk analysis (IRA) team met via teleconference at 2pm on 18 July 2007.

The meeting focused on

  • issues raised by stakeholders - the IRA team agreed that issues raised by stakeholders in response to the revised draft IRA report had been considered;
  • interim quarantine measures - in light of stakeholder comments, the IRA team confirmed that the new proposed interim quarantine measures were appropriate;
  • testing protocol; and
  • next steps in the the process of finalising advice on the recommended new interim quarantine measures and in developing the final IRA report.

Prawn IRA team meeting, 16-17 March 2007

The prawn and prawn products import risk analysis (IRA) team met in Brisbane on 16 and 17 March 2007.

The meeting focused on reviewing the technical issues raised by stakeholders in their submissions on the revised draft IRA report. The meeting discussed those issues in terms of whether new technical information was presented that was relevant to the report's draft conclusions and recommendations.

The IRA team also discussed

  • the corrigenda items to the revised draft IRA report that will be placed on Biosecurity Australia's website;
  • the next steps in the process of developing the final IRA report;
  • the Kewagama 2007 bait and burley survey and its release to stakeholders.

The submissions on the draft IRA report will be placed on the public file.

Prawn IRA team meeting, 13 October 2006

The prawn and prawn products import risk analysis (IRA) team met via teleconference at 11am on 13 October 2006.

The meeting focused on minor adjustments to be made to the revised draft prawn IRA report that is soon to be publicly released.

The IRA team finished considering the proposed amendments and agreed on all changes.

The IRA team was informed of the formal processes leading up to the public release of the report.

A penultimate version of the document will be sent to all IRA team members for their consideration prior to public release.

The IRA team noted and discussed the new species of parasite of mud crab found on mud crab eggs by Leigh Owens' research team.  The discovery is considered to be the first record of a new Australian species of parasite and is not considered to be an incursion of an exotic species.

Prawn IRA team meeting, 11 September 2006

The prawn and products import risk analysis (IRA) team met via teleconference at 2pm on 11 September 2006.

The IRA team agreed the summary report was an accurate record of the previous meeting.

The team reviewed the draft risk assessment chapters of the revised draft IRA report and agreed with the agent specific risk assessments.  The team also reviewed the draft risk management options and agreed on the risk management options for those diseases determined to pose an unacceptable risk.

An update on progress of the follow-up bait survey was provided.

Biosecurity Australia reported on discussions with stakeholders.

Prawn IRA team meeting, 27-28 July 2006

The prawn and prawn products import risk analysis (IRA) team met in Canberra on 27 and 28 July 2006.

An update on progress of the follow-up bait survey was provided.

The team reviewed the draft risk assessment chapters of the revised draft IRA report and made several modifications. The team also gave consideration to the findings of the latest TSV exposure trial results for monodon prawns.

The team reviewed the draft risk management chapter, and made considerable progress in developing draft risk management measures.

The IRA team noted that it had taken into account previous stakeholder comments in drafting the revised draft IRA report.
