Importing Wine Barrels, Woodchips and Sawdust Products

An Import Permit application to import wine barrels, woodchips and sawdust products must be accompanied by a manufacturer's declaration (see examples below). Once the completed permit application and manufacturer's declaration are received, AQIS will determine whether the treatments stated on the manufacturer's declaration reduce the quarantine risk to an acceptably low level.

Below are two examples of the minimum information that must be provided on a manufacturer's declaration. Applicants are encouraged to provide further information on the manufacturer's declaration if available.

These examples of manufacturer's declarations are a guide only. If any additional treatments or processes are performed please provide details.

For further information about manufacturer's declaration requirements please refer to ICON Alerts PQA0021 - Manufacturer's declarations—format requirements.

Applying for an Import Permit does not automatically result in an Import Permit being granted. You should ensure that an application is submitted for each type of commodity and that the prescribed fee accompanies the Import Permit application.

Import Permit Fees—Category 3 (non-standard) goods

These commodities are classified as a Category 3 assessment for the purposes of determining the Import Permit fee rate that applies.

An assessable item means an item identified on an Import Permit application as consisting of goods of a class imported, or to be imported, from a particular country for a particular use.

Further information on AQIS fees and charges can be found on the AQIS website. Import Permit issuing fees are specified in the Quarantine Service Fees Determination 2005.
