Post Entry Plant Industry Consultative Committee
In response to the Nairn Report, the Post-Entry Plant Industry Consultative Committee (PEPICC) was established in 1997 to strengthen AQIS’s partnership and communication links with industry and to emphasise the community responsibilities to maximise 'safe' introductions of plant material.
The PEPICC is the principal advisory forum for AQIS to consult on relevant quarantine issues with the plant importing and exporting industries.
Within the framework of the Government’s policies relating to quarantine and export inspection functions delivered by AQIS and its authorised agents, the PEPICC:
- acts as the peak industry consultative group between AQIS and the plant importing and exporting industry on operational, policy and strategic issues
- considers and provides advice to AQIS on relevant matters in the plant importing and exporting industry
- ensures that the PEPICC acts as an effective conduit for information exchange between the plant importing and exporting industry and AQIS.
The PEPICC considers
- strategic directions for AQIS programs relevant to the plant importing and exporting industry
- significant proposed changes to policy and operational procedures
- program budgets, cost recovery mechanisms and charge levels
- key program performance issues such as efficiency and effectiveness indicators.
