ICON Redevelopment Project

In 2004, a Strategic Information Management Plan (SIMP) for ICON was produced that presented strategies to enhance the business and information management of AQIS’s import conditions.  Significant elements of the plan included the development of a Content Model that would provide the framework for the better organisation and management of import conditions, and the redevelopment of ICON based on this model.

AQIS is now embarking upon the final improvement strategy for ICON – the redevelopment of the ICON system.  The ICON Redevelopment project aims to:

  • Establish a complete, accurate, unambiguous and defensible knowledge base of import conditions;
  • Provide AQIS operational staff with tools to manage quarantine and food safety risk;
  • Provide the importing community with tools to access the knowledge base to support the preparation and clearance of imported goods;
  • Streamline and strengthen the processes relating to permit and non-permit authorisations;
  • Provide an extensible and supportable IT system; and
  • Strengthen the linkages to external stakeholders involved in the management of quarantine and imported food risks.

The project is expected to commence in earnest in 2008 and complete during 2010.

The project team consulted cargo logistics software providers in June 2007, using the PowerPoint presentation below to facilitate discussions, to identify potential interface requirements from ICON to the commercial products.
