Appointed Analyst and the Services Provided Matrices

Appointed analysts/laboratories are appointed by the Imported Foods Program under Section 34 of the Imported Food Control Act 1992 to carry out analysis/testing of samples taken during the inspection of imported food products.

The following spreadsheets have been developed to show importers and brokers the services that each Appointed Analyst provides, and in the provision of these services, the Appointed Analyst may subcontract some of the analysis/testing out to other laboratories.

Only the laboratories listed in the spreadsheets can be used to provide services (including sub-contracted services) for samples taken by the Imported Food Program. All testing that is performed must be conducted in a National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) accredited laboratory whose 'scope' of accreditation covers the tests that are performed. The NATA website has further information regarding NATA accreditation.

  • Testing Capabilities Matrices PDF [178kb]—These matrices provide information on each Appointed Analyst and the tests that they can provide in various food categories. (Laboratories may choose to subcontract some of their testing to other laboratories). A summary of tests (for all Appointed Analysts vs all food groups) is also provided along with the contact details for Appointed Analysts.

  • Importers Laboratory Nomination Form  PDF [157kb]—Importers (or their authorised agents) are responsible for selecting a laboratory to perform testing of samples. This form will assist importers/agents to nominate laboratories.

  • Importers are advised to contact their nominated laboratories to organise collection of samples and for all other issues relating to the service being provided, such as cost of analysis.
