Exporting food from Multi-Commodity Establishments
A multi-commodity establishment is a premises at which more than one type of commodity is prepared for export as food ie. Meat, Dairy, Seafood and Eggs.
These establishments may be food processors, but it is predominantly stores, container depots, container terminals and freight forwarders that handle multiple commodities - meat, dairy, seafood and eggs as well as other foods. A single establishment registration applies to a multi-commodity establishment, however the establishment must also comply with each of the applicable commodity-specific Export Control Orders.
The commodity specific Export Control Orders are:
- Export Control (Meat and Meat Products) Orders 2005
- Export Control (Milk and Milk Products) Orders 2005
- Export Control (Fish and Fish Products) Orders 2005
- Export Control (Eggs and Egg Products) Orders 2005.
In 2006 AQIS initiated a project to review its regulatory management of multi-commodity establishments. The aim of this review is to:
- simplify the AQIS management process
- implement a single audit program, and
- provide assistance to multi-commodity establishments in relation to the development of Approved Arrangements through the provision of guidelines and template documents.
