Application to Import Cats and Dogs

How to complete the application to import cats and dogs
Prior to lodging your application with AQIS, see how to complete the import application to import cats and dogs to ensure all information is completed correctly.
Application form
AQIS aims to approve all import permit applications within 10 working days. If you leave out any required information, your application will take longer to process. Please allow additional time for the import permit/s to be received by fax or delivered by mail.
There are two ways you can complete an application to import cats and dogs.
1. Complete and submit application form online (eLodgement)
The Application to Import Cats and Dogs can be submitted and paid for electronically, within our secure environment. The application form is made up of 3 steps:
- Step 1 requires importer and exporter details
- Step 2 requires animal details
- Step 3 requires importer declaration and payment details.
You will need to scan and attach all supporting documentation. If you have more than one animal, you must submit separate eLodgement applications for each animal.
A Private Veterinary Attendance and Treatment Declaration must be scanned and attached to each eLodgement application. A physical signature is required.
When submitting an elodgement application form online, payment can only be made by credit card.
The minimum fee for online lodgement is $85.00 and other charges will apply. View the Charging Schedule for Import Permit Applications to ensure you have authorised sufficient payment.
2. Complete and submit manual application form (post, fax or scan and email)

You must complete one application for each cat or dog.
We will not start processing your application form until the correct fee is paid in full. The importer, as listed on the application form, is responsible for all quarantine fees associated with the import and quarantine accommodation of cats and dogs.
You can pay for the processing of your manual application by one of the following ways:
- Credit card: Credit Card Payment Form
PDF [37kb], or - Bank cheque: Post a bank cheque payable to the 'Collector of Public Monies, DAFF'. This must be in Australian dollars and your manual application will need to be submitted by post.
View the Charging Schedule for Import Permit Applications to ensure you have authorised sufficient payment. Ensure that payment is attached to your application at the time of submission.
