National Quarantine Awards
The QEAC National Quarantine Awards acknowledge individuals, community groups and organisations who have contributed to Australian quarantine and biosecurity management. This year, the awards also recognise the Centenary of Quarantine, 100 years since the signing of the Quarantine Act 1908. Nominations closed on 30 September 2008.
The Quarantine and Exports Advisory Council (QEAC) and AQIS have been coordinating the QEAC National Quarantine Awards since 1998. The awards are designed to recognise and reward individuals and organisations who have made an outstanding contribution to maintaining Australia's quarantine integrity.
The awards are based on a four-tiered structure:
- Quarantine Certificate of Commendation
- Regional Quarantine Awards
- Public Sector Quarantine Award
- National Quarantine Award.
The 2007 National Quarantine Award joint winners were:
- eBay Australia for providing warning messages to Australian customers attempting to bid on or purchase high-risk quarantine material
- the Torres Strait Islanders Media Association (TSIMA) for its weekly community radio segment which reinforces the quarantine messages in a culturally relevant way.
The winner of the 2007 Public Sector Quarantine Award was the AQIS Talisman Sabre 2007 Team.
