Management of Plant Pathogen Collections

This handbook provides a summary of methods and techniques for collecting and handling plant disease specimens and is useful for all disciplines of plant pathology. It includes information on:
- techniques for the major groups of economically important pathogens
- methods for collecting specimens in the field
- growth media, isolation and preservation of specimens and
- tips on how to manage a herbarium and a culture collection
The purpose of the handbook is to provide a reference for countries in the Southeast Asian region seeking to build specimen-based pest lists for plant diseases, to facilitate international trade in agricultural commodities.
An international team lead by Dr Roger Shivas of the Plant Pathology Herbarium in the Queensland Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries prepared the handbook. The Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry commissioned the handbook using funding from AusAID's Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Support Program.
