Ballast water research series: Report no. 14
The IMSP has already produced a number of publications as part of a Ballast Water Research Series which present research and technical investigations on ballast water management, such as exchange and treatments. This research provides the IMSP with a scientific basis for policy decisions and supports implemented management initiatives. The series was initially focused on ballast water research but was later extended to include bio-fouling of ships as this has been recognised as an important vector of marine pests and an area lacking in technical knowledge. View full list of reports available on the IMSP Research and Publications on Introduced Marine Pests webpage.
Ballast Water Research Series Report 14: "Hull Fouling as a Vector for the Translocation of Marine Organisms" reviews the current state of knowledge concerned with the fouling of ship's hulls and the potential of marine organisms to be transferred both domestically and internationally by this pathway.
