Locust control agents and livestock residues
When undertaking control of locusts bands and swarms, the APLC applies very low doses of insecticide that degrade rapidly in the environment. To safeguard against the risk of insecticide residues in grain or stock in areas where locust control agents have been applied, strict withholding periods and/or slaughter intervals of 1 to 2 weeks are imposed. This allows ample time for the insecticides to break down to undetectable levels.
A brochure produced by SAFEMEAT on Plague locusts, wingless grasshoppers and livestock residues is now available for landholders and can be downloaded as a
PDF [156Kb].
A supplementary brochure detailing other potential insecticides not in use by the APLC can be downloaded as a
PDF [86Kb].
