Industry Partnerships Program

The Industry Partnerships Program concluded on 30 June 2007. This program was succeeded by the Advancing Agricultural Industries program.

In the 2005 Budget, the Australian Government announced a three-year $15 million Industry Partnerships Program as an extension of the pilot program it introduced in 2004 05.

The Industry Partnerships Program was part of the Advancing Agriculture Australia (AAA) package. The AAA initiatives helped people in agriculture, fishing, forestry and processed food industries become more competitive, sustainable and profitable by supporting innovation, training and other projects.

The Industry Partnerships Program focused on agriculture, fisheries and forestry industries to improve their:

  • ability to continuously yield positive financial returns
  • capacity to operate in future environmental and social settings
  • ability to compete in the global marketplace
  • capability to respond to change and be flexible
  • confidence to manage their affairs.

The program aimed to achieve these goals by working with industries to:

  • highlight the industry’s successes and build on its strengths
  • improve the industry’s ability to identify and respond appropriately to threats and risks
  • ensure key stakeholders throughout the supply chain and in supporting services contribute to the industry’s vision and directions
  • develop skills and structures to improve industry and organisational capacity.

The components of the program were:

Taking Stock and Setting Directions - An industry that participated in a Taking Stock and Setting Directions project generally reviewed its organisational structure, its supply chain and current and future market place issues. It also identified priorities and actions required to help the industry better position itself in the market place.

Action Partnerships Grants - Once an industry completed a Taking Stock and Setting Directions project or an equivalent exercise, it was able to apply for an Action Partnerships Grant to implement the identified priorities and actions.

Industry Capacity Building Initiatives - Capacity Building related to a range of initiatives by which producers and non-government rural organisations were able to improve their capacity to participate in, and contribute to, rural industries.  There were three main target groups for capacity building:

  • Women in rural industries
  • Young people in rural industries
  • Indigenous people in rural industries.
