Philippines banana import risk analysis - extension to comment period

1 July 2004
DAFF04/22D

Biosecurity Australia has extended the comment period for the revised draft import risk analysis (IRA) report for bananas from the Philippines by 30 days to a new closing date of 15 September 2004.

The Australian Banana Growers Council recently requested an extension to the comment period because its chief scientific consultant is unavailable within the allocated timeframe for comments on the draft report.

The extension till 15 September is in response to this request.

The comment period on draft reports is a vital part of Australia’s IRA process because it provides an important opportunity to elicit feedback.

Biosecurity Australia welcomes technical comments from stakeholders, and any new scientific information that can assist in refining import risk analyses.

Stakeholder comments will continue to be placed on the public file for the banana IRA as they are received.

Following the comment period, the IRA team will consider all stakeholder comments and any other scientific information that comes to hand.
