Australia Day Award for Broome Quarantine Officer

27 January 2006

Craig Brockway, Senior Quarantine Officer in Broome, was pleased when the recipients of the Quarantine and Exports Advisory Council (QEAC) Australia Day Awards were announced – and thrilled to find out he was one of them.

The QEAC Australia Day Awards are presented to staff of the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) who have made outstanding contributions to Biosecurity and Quarantine throughout the year.

Craig’s award recognises his participation in the national Foreign Fishing Vessel Project Team.  In 2005 this team worked extremely hard to develop nationally consistent Illegal Foreign Fishing Vessel (IFFV) Management protocols.  These protocols are now standard for mitigating the significant biosecurity risks associated with IFFV arrivals.

Craig’s key contribution to the team was his considerable experience working in the north west of Western Australia and keen understanding of the practical applications of the new protocols.  His colleagues throughout the state take great delight in congratulating him on this well-deserved recognition of his efforts.
