Quarantine award for Seven Network

1 November 2005

The Seven Network’s Border Security program was today presented a prestigious award for its outstanding contribution to raising awareness of Quarantine to more than two million prime-time television viewers.

The NSW Quarantine Regional Award was presented by Quarantine Export and Advisory Council member Hart Krtschil [CORRECT] and recognised Border Security for its accurate and entertaining stories, which have helped raised awareness of quarantine issues over the past two years.

Border Security was selected from 11 entrants from across NSW and the ACT for the Quarantine Award. Graham Turner, Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) Regional Manager for NSW, praised the production team for its efforts and commitment to delivering engaging and educational quarantine messages during the series.

“It’s vital that all Australians are aware of the importance of quarantine in protecting Australia’s environment and agriculture industries from exotic pests and diseases,” Graham says.

“Over the past two years Border Security has filmed at international airports, seaports and mail centres in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane to capture the unique interaction between AQIS clients and quarantine officers at Australia’s border.

“The program’s success has exceeded everyone’s expectations and it has contributed significantly to enhancing quarantine awareness,” Graham says.

As a regional award winner, the Seven Network’s Border Security program is now eligible for the National Quarantine Award, to be announced later this month by Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Peter McGauran. The awards recognise the exceptional efforts of recipients in helping AQIS to protect Australia’s environment and agriculture industries from exotic pests and diseases.
