Clearance of MV Al Kuwait
DAFF03/9D
11 February 2003
Michael Taylor, Australia’s Director of Quarantine and Secretary of the Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, conducted an inspection of the MV Al Kuwait at Fremantle this morning in the company of Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) officers.
The inspection was undertaken in light of the high profile nature of this consignment to Kuwait, and to address concerns raised following the MV Cormo Express incident.
Mr Taylor felt it was necessary to ensure, not only that the livestock on board the Al Kuwait were healthy and fit to travel, but also that the equipment, fodder and facilities satisfied Australia’s export requirements and those of the importing country authorities.
He has completed his inspection and is satisfied that all aspects of this shipment meet Australia’s and Kuwait’s requirements. The vessel also has sufficient fodder for the journey.
The vessel has now been formally released to begin its voyage at the earliest opportunity.
