DAFF University Vacation Employment Program (UVEP)

Thank you for your interest in DAFF's University Vacation Employment Program (UVEP). This program is designed for students currently studying at university and is available to students from all disciplines.

The program is a great way for you to gain paid work experience prior to graduating. It also provides you with insight into employment opportunities within the department including the Graduate Development Program. UVEP will offer you some invaluable experiences by providing exposure to portfolio-related issues, by carrying out a major project and by giving you an excellent foundation for your future career.

Please note that project topics will change each year.

Employment status

The program involves six weeks of paid work experience from mid January to late February each year. You are employed under the Department of Agriculture Fisheries & Forestry Collective Agreement 2009-11 as a non-ongoing full-time employee at the APS Level 1 rate (current salary $38,338).

Location

In 2010 placements were available in Canberra (13), Sydney (2), Perth (2), Brisbane (2), Melbourne (1) and Cairns (1).

Please note that the majority of placements are located in Canberra, however placements in other locations will vary each year depending on availability.

You will be responsible for your own travel and accommodation arrangements during the six week program.  No financial assistance for relocation will be provided.

Training and development opportunities

The program includes a formal induction program with key learning around the department’s structure and internal operations; a workshop on writing effective job applications; the opportunity to undertake a meaningful project relevant to your studies; and an opportunity to network with peers, professionals and researchers working in your field of interest.
